The 10-Second Lesson Plan: Safeguarding Pedagogical Integrity in the Age of AI Productivity

Session Synopsis

Recent discourse on Generative AI in education is highly polarised. It is portrayed either as a workload saviour or a threat to teaching quality. Researchers warn that, without guidance, AI tools default to “behaviourist” biases, generating formulaic, teacher-centred lesson plans that can inadvertently stifle student inquiry. But what actually happens when these tools are put in the hands of experienced, constructivist educators?

This session presents the findings of a qualitative study conducted with IB teachers at St. Joseph’s Institution International School in Singapore. The research uncovers a powerful counter-narrative: expert teachers are not passively accepting AI’s default pedagogy. Instead, they employ active, deliberate strategies to “tame” the algorithm.

Moving beyond generic “prompt engineering,” this presentation translates these empirical insights into a scalable framework for school leaders. Participants will explore how expert educators adopt the stance of the “Critical Curator,” using strategies such as:

  • Context Stacking
  • Iterative Dialogue

These approaches help educators maintain professional agency and treat AI as a true “thought partner.”

Attendees will leave with an evidence-based roadmap to design robust, pedagogy-first AI integration strategies that elevate, rather than dilute, student-centred learning across entire campuses.

Key Learning Outcomes / Takeaways

By the end of this 30-minute research briefing, school AI leaders will:

  • Identify the “Systemic Behaviourist Trap”
  • Scale the “Critical Curator” PD Framework
  • Deploy “Context Stacking” Institution-Wide
  • Lead a “Pedagogy-First” AI Strategy
