Decolonizing the History Classroom: Inquiry-Driven Learning with Flint AI

How can AI help students explore history through diverse perspectives both in research and in the books they read?
In this workshop, we share how Grade 5 students used Flint AI to drive inquiry in two powerful contexts: a social studies unit on Indonesian independence and a historical fiction book club unit. In both, students used Flint as a research partner to ask meaningful questions, explore multiple viewpoints, and build context around complex events on their own terms and at their reading level.
We’ll highlight how AI strengthened student questioning, supported multilingual learners, and brought cultural relevance into both content and reading comprehension. You’ll leave with examples of student prompts, inquiry workflows, and strategies for integrating AI to make historical thinking more inclusive, accessible, and engaging.
