Storytelling, Creative Writing, and AI Literacy
In an era when artificial intelligence is reshaping communication, authentic storytelling remains the most powerful form of human engagement. At the center of this session is the idea of voice: the distinctive way a writer sees the world, makes meaning, and shapes language to express their view. This interactive workshop invites educators to explore how community-based creative writing can help students develop intrinsic pride in their own voice and style, moving beyond formulaic writing into co-creating work that feels intentional, honest, and alive.
We will then explore how intentional AI literacy can give students control of tools that, rather than replacing their voice, allow them to sharpen it. Educators will engage in practical activities that use AI to draft and expand ideas, while foregrounding revision and process work as meaningful acts of authorship and choice. Through hard conversations about originality and ethics, we set up students to make intentional choices in their writing craft. Participants will leave with adaptable lesson ideas that position creative writing as an organic space for experimentation and identity-building, as well as specific strategies to help students write with genuine care and passion for expression.

Anjali currently teaches English 9 and SUPA Creative Nonfiction writing. She leads the transdisciplinary 9th-grade program, serves as faculty adviser for the South Asian Student Union, and organizes the school’s annual march in the Tokyo Pride Parade. She has presented at the National Conference for Teachers of English and holds a master’s in Instructional Leadership at the Harvard Graduate School of English. She enjoys backpacking, hut-to-hut hiking, and jamming out to K-pop.
Meagan Frazier
High School English Teacher, American School in Japan
Meagan currently teaches English 10 and SUPA Creative Nonfiction Writing. She has served as a curriculum coordinator, instructional coach, department head, exemplar teacher, Middle School literary magazine advisor, Middle School Community Service Coordinator, Class Dean, and IB/AP Coordinator. In her free time, Meagan enjoys reading, planning her next vacation, and spending time with her fur babies, Watson and Belle.
