Leveraging Incompetency: Why AI Sucks and why that’s a good thing
For all their amazing capacity, there are a lot of places where AI and specifically LLMs fall flat.
Developing critical literacy about this “jagged edge” of the technology is one of the biggest remits we have.
Luckily it can be fun, engaging and interesting.
By building tasks that lean into where the technology falls down, we open up exciting ways to challenge deep and critical thought and the opportunity to ask questions like:
- Why did it misinterpret me?
- How do I clarify my expectations?
- What are my expectations?
- Is this misunderstanding my own, or the AI?
Fundamentally, AI introduces a new challenge, in that we now have highly capable, but also highly fallible systems. The best AI experiences are the ones that lean into the weaknesses of the technology and exploit it.
