Making Space for the Human: Exploring AI’s Role in Easing Educator Workload

AI is often presented as a way to help educators work faster, but saving time should not simply result in more work. This 30-minute Think Tank explores how schools can use AI to ease time-consuming processes and create greater capacity for the human work at the heart of education.

Drawing on findings from a whole-school staff workload survey conducted at Regents International School Pattaya, participants will examine common workload pressures and consider where AI or automation may help, what must remain meaningfully human, and when technology may not be the right response.

Through structured discussion, participants will explore one workload challenge and identify how reclaimed time could be redirected towards relationships, creativity, professional judgement and staff wellbeing.

Participants will leave with a practical, human-centred framework for beginning similar conversations in their own schools.

Head of Innovation, Regents International School Pattaya

Nicole Sargeant is Head of Innovation at Regents International School Pattaya, where she leads the strategic development of whole-school EdTech, STEAM and responsible AI practice.

An experienced Computer Science educator and Apple Distinguished Educator, Nicole has supported teachers at Regents and across Nord Anglia Education schools in Southeast Asia to embed STEAM through the Nord Anglia–MIT collaboration.

Passionate about human-centred innovation, Nicole believes that when technology is used purposefully and responsibly, it can help make the world a better place. Her work focuses on empowering educators, inspiring creativity and creating greater capacity for the human work at the heart of education.
