From Promise to Practice: Tailoring AI Feedback in the Multilingual Language Classroom

AI feedback platforms hold great promise—but in real classrooms, teachers often find a gap between what these tools offer and what students actually need. How can we bridge that gap to provide targeted, actionable, and inclusive feedback that truly supports language learning?
This hands-on workshop explores how to use AI as a writing companion across the writing cycle—supporting idea generation, structure, revision, and reflection—while keeping learners’ linguistic and developmental needs in focus. Participants will explore and critically test a range of current AI tools, reflect on their strengths and blind spots, and develop strategies for prompt design and quality control in multilingual environments.

Based on real classroom practice at an international bilingual school, this session will cover:

  • How to move from generic to criteria-based feedback that supports student growth
  • What learners actually need at different stages of the writing process
  • How to evaluate and adapt AI feedback to support English and additional language learners
  • Ethical, legal, and pedagogical considerations in the use of AI in feedback loops
