Bias and Information Literacy with LLMs and AI Agents

This workshop, “Bias and Information Literacy with LLMs and AI Agents,” addresses the critical need for educators to understand and navigate the ethical complexities of artificial intelligence. It was designed to move beyond a simple “how-to” guide for using AI in the classroom, focusing instead on the development of an analytical pedagogical mindset. The core objective is to equip teachers with a strategic framework for identifying and addressing the inherent biases present in both large language models and goal-driven AI agents and give them actionable tools to use with their students.

Gemma Keating is an International Mathematics Educator at Li Po Chun United World College of Hong Kong focused on leveraging artificial intelligence to cultivate deep analytical thinking. With 12 years of experience, she designs learning experiences where AI acts as a catalyst for complex problem-solving, enabling students to model concepts, analyze data, and strengthen their reasoning skills. Looking to the next frontier, Gemma is actively exploring the potential of agentic AI in the classroom. She investigates how autonomous AI agents could function as personalized Socratic partners or research assistants, empowering students to navigate complex inquiries and develop greater intellectual independence. Currently pursuing a Masters in Education Technology, Gemma is dedicated to shaping a future where AI amplifies, rather than replaces, essential human analysis.
